An afternoon with Dr Stewart at Glenworth Valley
We were graced with great Spring weather when we gathered in September with a group of agisters at Glenworth Valley Horse Riding. A spot all of us at Jenquine like to visit.
Set up under the trees, what originally was planned to be a seminar on basic nutrition principles and calcium deficiency, quickly became an intimate conversation between everyone. Rather than conduct a strict lecture, Dr Stewart asked the group to express their concerns and ask questions regarding nutrition and calcium deficiency.
While it was a quiet start, once we got going a great group conversation began! Not only did we cover the topic of mineral interaction in depth we also shared experiences and some funny stories along the way. There was a general concern by the group about how complex feeding and nutrition can be and if it needs to be so hard!
Other topics covered included keeping weight on, laminitis, salt intake, feed requirements and amounts, getting minerals into those who do not need hand feeding, the issue of calcium deficiency due to oxalates and whether supplements can be given at intervals.
Once the conversation died down, Jen was available to have a look at some of the horses and speak with their owners.
We also had a Jenquine display including both Bone Formula Forte and Calsorb® Forte in their different sizes, there to touch and feel. We also provided helpful information about the products and their use and each attendee was given a sample bag of Dr Stewart’s Bone Formula® Forte.
We were thrilled with the awareness the group displayed and their commitment to bringing the best to their horses. We would like to thank all the group for attending and give a special mention to Nicole, the agistment manager at Glenworth, for organising the afternoon. Both Jen and I had a great time and we look forward to more afternoons where we can bring science to your feed bin!
